Imam Al-Ajurri's book is regarded as one of the principal sources in its subject-matter, being one of the very first works to comprehensively address the required manners and character of the people of the Quran.
The book is divided into ten chapters. Most of the material is of two types: quotations and admonitions.
The quotations are from the Quran, Sunnah and words of the Companions and the Salaf; the admonitions have been composed by the author on the basis of the quotations, to address the reader directly and guide him to righteousness and virtue.
